Need help in assessing your farm business options?
Taking Stock is a free 1:1 business assessment and support service using a consultant to assist in the collection and analysis of current financial and physical data with the aim of clarifying future farm business options. This is available to all levy paying farmers, regardless of who they supply. Call Murray Dairy on (03) 5833 5312. This program is supported by the Australian Government and Gardiner Foundation.
Feeding Pastures for Profit
Feeding Pastures for Profit (FPFP) program aims to help dairy farmers to develop skills and gain confidence in making decisions around:
1. How much pasture do I allocate to the herd today?
2. How much supplement should I be giving the herd today?
These decisions have a large impact on farm profit through making the most of the farm business’s available resources.

Regional Network Group Meetings for January 2017
The upcoming RNG meetings are a great way to be more involved in our industry. These group meetings provide direct input to the planning of Murray Dairy's events for 2017 and also provide a direct link back to you from Murray Dairy. Successful Summer Cropping Workshop
Murray Dairy’s Successful Summer Cropping Workshop will take place on Wednesday 25 January, 2017. Join us on a tour of the Riverina to see how summer crops are performing. Our hosts, Malcolm Holm and Rob Singleton, will talk us through their crop management, alongside Cropping Agronomist Matt Nihill who will discuss establishment, weed and nutrient management. Soil Scientist, Christian Bannan, will discuss the impacts of soil preparation, soil management and soil characteristics on crop development with the aid of soil pits on site.

Downer Cow Workshops
Nursing a downer cow is challenging and stressful – it can be difficult to provide a good nursing environment, know when to call for help or decide if euthanasia is the best option.
To help you make better decisions about managing downer cows and improve their welfare, Murray Dairy is hosting a half day workshop with Dr Phil Poulton – a leading dairy veterinarian based in Gippsland, on downer cow management.

Autumn Start Up / Managing for Soil Success
These on farm days will examine and discuss options to remediate the soil impacts resulting from the prolonged wet winter. Soil Scientist Christian Bannan will use soil pits to discuss and demonstrate impacts and options to support a successful autumn sowing program.

Building a Remarkable Dairy Workforce
Mandy Johnson, best-selling author, speaker and business adviser will be presenting to dairy farmers the best techniques to help business recruitment, solving employment issues and how to get the best from your staff.

Euthanasia of Livestock – Accredited Course
The welfare of animals is a dairy industry priority and the humane killing of cattle that are sick or injured is something that dairy farmers are required to deal with as part of good animal husbandry of all classes of livestock.
It is important that all steps are taken to safely, effectively and humanely destroy cattle to work within the law, meet the high industry and community expectations and most importantly, to deliver the best animal welfare outcomes.
The "Euthanasia of Livestock" course is an accredited training program supported by Dairy Australia which is now available to farmers and other livestock handlers in the Murray Dairy region. The course is delivered to small groups by expert veterinarian,Tristan Jubb, under the auspices of GOTAFE.

Senate Economics References Committee
The Senate Economics Refereces Committtee is undertaking an inquiry into Australia's Dairy Industry.
The committee will be holding a town hall style public meeting at:
Riverlinks Eastbank Centre, 70 Welsford Street, Shepparton from 10.00am on Thursday 2 Febrary 2017.
This is an opportunity for dairy farmers to speak to the committee about their experinces, concerns and the future of the dairy industry in Australia.

The 15th Annual Australian Dairy Conference is to be held at the National Wine Centre of Australia, Adelaide, South Australia. 14-16 February 2017.
Opportunity for Young Farmers - 2 tickets to the Australian Dairy Conference up for grabs
Murray Dairy is supporting two young farmers or employees from the region to attend the Australian Diary Conference to be held in South Australia this February. Successful applicants will receive one ticket to the conference plus $500 toward travel and accommodation. Applications close Monday 23 January 2017.
